PRLF provides an educational opportunity for prisoners to engage with world events and key political, cultural, and philosophical questions from a unique revolutionary perspective, including discussions of morality, religion, science, and the arts.
Prisoners Revolutionary Literature Fund (PRLF) is an educational organization that fulfills requests from U.S. prisoners for revolutionary literature.
The main requests received by PRLF from those behind bars are for complimentary subscriptions in Spanish and English to the weekly newspaper Revolution and for revolutionary and other books, including those highlighted in the newspaper. By providing this literature, PRLF provides an educational opportunity for prisoners to engage with world events and key political, cultural, and philosophical questions of the day from a unique revolutionary perspective, including discussions of morality, religion, science, and the arts. Every week, prisoners are encouraged to delve into urgent and lively news and debate about unfolding political and social struggles, and to critically think about and dissect the current state of society, as well as search for an alternative.
PRLF also strives to combat increasing censorship that seeks to deny prisoners access to Revolution newspaper and the other literature requested.
Most of the material you'll find on this website is letters from prisoners to PRLF. Volunteers type the letters, remove personally identifying information to protect the prisoners' remaining rights, and share their words here for you to read. The letters show the value of the educational literature we send, and the transformations prisoners are capable of, given the opportunity.
"I donate to the PRLF because the encouragement to read offers a way to non-violently combat systemic structural injustices that commodifies human beings and jails them for profit. I experience reading as transformative - it creates perspective. Supporting the simple act of reading creates opportunities for others to learn about themselves, their situation and ultimately to advance their cause. Donating confirms humanity."
